A purpose for ink – Jumbo tag.

posted in: Techniques | 0

I am so honoured that this project made for The Wholesaler using their range of Products was chosen for the cover project for our local scrapbooking magazine here in South Africa.
The project is a jumbo tag covered in coloured paper towel inked with All Purpose Inks.
I also took the actual photograph for the cover of the magazine – which was a double honour of acknowledgement.

The range of All Purpose inks is truly versatile. I love using them to add a splash of colour to my stamped images, die-cuts, flowers and so much more, but I especially love its versatility for creating unique papers. Instead of using white cardstock for this technique, I used paper towel and colour it to create some unique paper for a large creative tag.

step 1 – Select four colours of All Purpose inks to use. You will also need a pipette, water misting bottle, paper towel and a craft sheet to work on.

step1

step 2 – Lightly scrunch up the paper towel and place it onto your craft sheet. Use your pipette to add drops of All Purpose Inks to the paper towel one colour at a time. Start with the lightest colour first. Spread out the drops as per the sample.
step2
step 3 – Add the autumn leaf colour next, I work in colour families when adding colour. Lightly mist the ink with water to make it blend and spread further into your paper towel.
step3

step 4 – Add the mint screen and sky blue next. Mist the entire piece of paper towel with water and leave it to dry completely.

TIP: Leave the paper towel to dry naturally, when it is wet it becomes really fragile so I avoid handling it until it is dry.

step4
step 5 – Once the paper towel is dry, the colours become lighter. You can also now smooth out the paper.
step5TIP: You can always add more colour in certain areas even after it is dry. Just add more ink drops in the open areas or areas where you need more, or different colours.
Lightly mist it with water and leave to dry again.

step 6 –  Die-cut a swirl out of white cardstock and add the same All Purpose ink colours. Mist the cardstock piece with water and add drops of All Purpose Inks to the wet areas using a pipette.
step6
step 7 – Once the paper towel is dry, add some glue to the large tag, place the paper towel carefully onto the tag and smooth it out using your hands.

TIP: Adding adhesive to paper towel is almost impossible. So add your adhesive to the surface and then add the paper towel to the glued surface.

step7

step 8 –  Die-cut a sentiment out of white cardstock and use your All Purpose inks and a small paint brush to paint the sentiment
step8
step 9 – Adhere the sentiment to your tag and then add some dimensional glaze to it. Add decorative flowers and swirls to your tag to finish it off.
