Art by Marlene Art Journaling Page

Each month I teach an Art Journaling Class and the Art by Marlene stamps and products has quickly become a firm favorite in these classes. This month we used the beautiful crab stamp – and it was a huge hit with everyone!

The base was created with watercolour paint [my first love] some of my stencils and of course lots of stamping to create the different layers.
These guys are so cute – we used watercolour paint to add layers of colours to the crabs giving them such unique personalities – each one looking amazing.
Rainbow colours for the win!
Stunning effects on the background using DecoArt paint and Glamour Dust for the coolest resist technique!
Why not join me for class next month at Short Cuts Crafts.

Fall themed cards with Joy Clair

Today I am sharing some Fall inspired cards. And although we are heading into summer I dream of cooler weather already. These stamps are so versatile and can be used for any occasion – even if its not fall in your neck of the woods.

For my first card I stamped the leaves to create an area in the middle for the sentiment – pretty much as the stamp was intended to be used. Such an awesome idea and can be used in a myriad of ways.
I used my favorite markers to add some colour to my leaves – quick easy and an artistic mess.
The sentiment was stamped with my favorite Sepia Versafine ink pad, and a few diamante finished off this card.
My second card uses a piece of old book paper inked using Memento ink and splattered with water to create the mottled effect.
A few leaves from the stamp set and a sentiment is all that is needed for a quick and easy card.
Perfect for someone special celebrating a special day of occasion. Neutral and versatile for male and female recipients. Such a cute set that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Until next time happy stamping!

Pretty Powerful in Pink

This month’s new release from Joy Clair did not disappoint at all. One of my favourite new sets is this one – perfect for making cards for all those brave women fighting a battle inside of them. So, what better way than to fight like a girl in pink and bling.

I used pink VersaFine Clair ink to stamp the background directly onto my card.
The pink ribbon was embossed in white embossing powder and then coloured using my Leisure Arts markers kindly sent to me by them. They are amazing and with 60 colours to choose from – I had a ball.
A few finishing touches and some sparkle and this card is ready to be sent to someone special.
And do’nt forget the gorgeous Rinea foil detail at the bottom of the card. The cherry on the cake and making everything so much better. Until next time – happy stamping! Don’t forget to visit the Joy Clair website and blog for more inspiration and some retail therapy.

For my first project I made a card using the You’re a gem stamp set.
I love how versatile the actual crystal stamp is – I even cut away one of the crystals to accommodate my sentiment. I love altering and using stamps in different ways and this one will work well for so many different projects and techniques.
For my second stamp set I used the Shadow of the Almighty stamp set. Such a cute set with such an amazing message to it. But I can see those umbrellas used in so many ways and for so many different projects like beach layouts, holiday cards etc.
I create a bright blue background using inks blended and misted and then stamped my sentiment onto it once dry using VersaFine Clair ink.
I added colour to the char and umbrellas using watercolor paint in bright and happy shades. I cut off the umbrellas poles and repeated the bright and happy shades only – multiple covers for resting totally in HIS Shelter. I hope you feel inspired by these projects and stamp sets – now hop onto

Make your cards shine with Rinea foil

Today on the Imagine Crafts Blog I am sharing this card using Rinea foils to create and add shine to any project. You can create amazing elements for your scrapbook layouts and cards using the range of Rinea foils. Combined with inked backgrounds you can create a feast of colour and shine

To tie into the theme of using Desert colours this month I used my Memento Markers to add colour to my stamped heart using shades of cream, yellow and orange. I love how it turned out.
A few paint splats on top of the coloured heart adds some personality to it.

A quick how to resist canvas panel

Today on the blog I am sharing a quick canvas project I made using this vintage Bicycle stamp from the Gentleman’s Emporium Collection and some flower elements from the Le Petit Jardin range.

Step 1 – Punch a 3″ circle out of patterned paper from the Gentleman’s Emporium paper pad.
Step 2 – Stamp the Bicycle in black VersaFine Clair ink onto the circle.
Step 3 – Ink the edges of the circle in brown ink, then sprinkle the entire circle with clear embossing powder and heat set. Ink brown over the entire circle again and then use a soft cloth to buff the embossed surface. The inking will reveal all of the embossed areas.
Step 4 – Select some Le Petit Jardin elements from your pack as well as some foiled elements.
Step 5 – Adhere the embossed circle, foiled elements and flowers to the canvas.
I prepped my canvas background by adhering a serviette to it.
I like foiling and creating elements with my Go Press and Foil machine and keeping them for future projects so they are ready on the go and I can use them at any time.

Learn How To Create A Color Wash Effect On A Card

Following in the footsteps of fashions trends we explore the warm yellow that has the world looking all happy and sunshiny. I too have fallen in love with this Tuscan Sun color and who wouldn’t? I show you how easy it is to achieve this warm dark yellow effect by mixing colors, pastes, and watercolor techniques. Take a look at how I created this watercolor wash effect.

I used Creative Medium, Memento Luxe inkers, and clear texture pastes to create my colored base.
Mix Creative Medium, 2 drops of Dandelion inker, 2 drops of Peanut Brittle inker and a small drop of the clear glossy texture paste. Smooth the mixture out onto a piece of cardstock and leave to dry.
Once dry the surface creates a plastic looking smooth effect. Use a Loopy Rings die-cut and cut out the basic shape to use on your card. The die-cut elements have this amazing plastic looking effect that is super strong because of all the product mixed together on its surface.
Use On Point Glue to adhere the Loopy Rings die-cut to the front of your card base. Add drops from your inkers into an inkwell and add water. Using a large soft watercolor paintbrush, paint inside the circles to give a watercolor wash effect. By mixing the two colors of inker you can achieve the perfect warm mustard yellow.
Finish off your card by using the left-over watercolor ink to splat drops of color onto your card. Add a stamped sentiment using VersaFine Clair Nocturne and a stamped shark image. Add pearls and diamanté.

Fintastic Birthday Cards with Joy Clair

I am still loving the NEW Joya Clair stamp releases and this one is becoming a sure favourite. Does it feel like that with every stamp set? Yip pretty much. I often think what on earth will I use that set for – and then once I actually do, start colouring and stamping and creating it turns out that I am really loving it. This little shark right here is one of those…

The backgrounds used for these cards were created as samples in a Gelli Printing class. How amazing are they? What did I used you ask, well I used my pigment powders to create these magical effects in my Gelli Plate.
The stamped images were stamped onto my white technique cardstock in VersaFine Clair Nocturne and coloured using alcohol based markers.
The sentiment was stamped onto scrap white off-cuts and raised using foam tape for dimension.
And those magical white spots, well those are stamped bubbles, then coloured in with bleach/jik. The bleach reacts with the colour underneath and whitens out the ink colours to reveal perfect white spots. And then I also splatted onto the background with the bleach for a gorgeous effect. The happiest little sharks wishing someone a fantastic day!
For my second card I used the same coloured backgrounds with my Gelli plate but this background has more white space visible.
If you look carefully you can actually see some yellow sun rays peeking through. This was done on scrap papers where I misted yellow Mr Huey ink through a stencil for a background. And now this background to found a new lease on life with this stunning background.
My stamped sentiment was done directly onto my coloured background also using VersaFine Clair.
The apple was glazed using dimensional glaze for a bit of shine.
And here are my two stamp sets used for creating these stunning quick and easy cards.

Art by Marlene Art Journaling Page

I had a play date on Sunday in my Art By Marlene art journal – just me and some time doing what I love. And this was the end result. I love the freedom, colour and design of her products – the magic that anything is possible and I can create just because.
Position a sunray stencil [Stencilled by Jow] on your journal page towards the top edge. Use a sponge to sponge yellow acrylic paint through the stencil and keep it in place. Then use orange acrylic paint to stencil partially over the yellow to create interest.
Select images from your Die-cut book to use on your page and carefully remove them. I used a girl, leaves as wings, some circles cut in half and a Protea flower.
Stamp the image BM05 twice onto smooth white cardstock using VersaFine Clair ink. Fussy cut around the images.
Stamp the image BM05 twice onto smooth white cardstock using VersaFine Clair ink. Fussy cut around the images.
Add a single drop of liquid acrylic paint onto a plastic packet and mist with water. Carefully lift the packet, flip it over and stamp the acrylic onto your page. Leave to dry naturally or use a heat gun to dry and speed up the process.
Use Tombow adhesive to adhere the die-cut and stamped elements to your page as per the sample. Cut one of the stamped images in half and use at the top and bottom of your page.
Add finishing touches and details to your page. Add shadows using a graphite pencil and distress crayon around the girl image. Use a white marker to add white dots randomly across your page. Draw small white circles on the stamped images.
Use black VersaFine Clair ink pad and stamp a title onto your page.

Until next time I hope you are inspired by this page and by the amazing products available from this talented and amazing designer. Art by Marlene – designing real images for real life making creativity fun and easy!
