Learn How To Create A Color Wash Effect On A Card

Following in the footsteps of fashions trends we explore the warm yellow that has the world looking all happy and sunshiny. I too have fallen in love with this Tuscan Sun color and who wouldn’t? I show you how easy it is to achieve this warm dark yellow effect by mixing colors, pastes, and watercolor techniques. Take a look at how I created this watercolor wash effect.

I used Creative Medium, Memento Luxe inkers, and clear texture pastes to create my colored base.
Mix Creative Medium, 2 drops of Dandelion inker, 2 drops of Peanut Brittle inker and a small drop of the clear glossy texture paste. Smooth the mixture out onto a piece of cardstock and leave to dry.
Once dry the surface creates a plastic looking smooth effect. Use a Loopy Rings die-cut and cut out the basic shape to use on your card. The die-cut elements have this amazing plastic looking effect that is super strong because of all the product mixed together on its surface.
Use On Point Glue to adhere the Loopy Rings die-cut to the front of your card base. Add drops from your inkers into an inkwell and add water. Using a large soft watercolor paintbrush, paint inside the circles to give a watercolor wash effect. By mixing the two colors of inker you can achieve the perfect warm mustard yellow.
Finish off your card by using the left-over watercolor ink to splat drops of color onto your card. Add a stamped sentiment using VersaFine Clair Nocturne and a stamped shark image. Add pearls and diamanté.

Fintastic Birthday Cards with Joy Clair

I am still loving the NEW Joya Clair stamp releases and this one is becoming a sure favourite. Does it feel like that with every stamp set? Yip pretty much. I often think what on earth will I use that set for – and then once I actually do, start colouring and stamping and creating it turns out that I am really loving it. This little shark right here is one of those…

The backgrounds used for these cards were created as samples in a Gelli Printing class. How amazing are they? What did I used you ask, well I used my pigment powders to create these magical effects in my Gelli Plate.
The stamped images were stamped onto my white technique cardstock in VersaFine Clair Nocturne and coloured using alcohol based markers.
The sentiment was stamped onto scrap white off-cuts and raised using foam tape for dimension.
And those magical white spots, well those are stamped bubbles, then coloured in with bleach/jik. The bleach reacts with the colour underneath and whitens out the ink colours to reveal perfect white spots. And then I also splatted onto the background with the bleach for a gorgeous effect. The happiest little sharks wishing someone a fantastic day!
For my second card I used the same coloured backgrounds with my Gelli plate but this background has more white space visible.
If you look carefully you can actually see some yellow sun rays peeking through. This was done on scrap papers where I misted yellow Mr Huey ink through a stencil for a background. And now this background to found a new lease on life with this stunning background.
My stamped sentiment was done directly onto my coloured background also using VersaFine Clair.
The apple was glazed using dimensional glaze for a bit of shine.
And here are my two stamp sets used for creating these stunning quick and easy cards.

Products used:
VersaFine Clair Nocturne
3D Gloss Dimensional Glaze
Baby Shark Clear Stamps
Teacher Clear Stamps
White cardstock, Infusions Pigments, Gelli Plate, Markers

Art by Marlene Art Journaling Page

I had a play date on Sunday in my Art By Marlene art journal – just me and some time doing what I love. And this was the end result. I love the freedom, colour and design of her products – the magic that anything is possible and I can create just because.
Position a sunray stencil [Stencilled by Jow] on your journal page towards the top edge. Use a sponge to sponge yellow acrylic paint through the stencil and keep it in place. Then use orange acrylic paint to stencil partially over the yellow to create interest.
Select images from your Die-cut book to use on your page and carefully remove them. I used a girl, leaves as wings, some circles cut in half and a Protea flower.
Stamp the image BM05 twice onto smooth white cardstock using VersaFine Clair ink. Fussy cut around the images.
Stamp the image BM05 twice onto smooth white cardstock using VersaFine Clair ink. Fussy cut around the images.
Add a single drop of liquid acrylic paint onto a plastic packet and mist with water. Carefully lift the packet, flip it over and stamp the acrylic onto your page. Leave to dry naturally or use a heat gun to dry and speed up the process.
Use Tombow adhesive to adhere the die-cut and stamped elements to your page as per the sample. Cut one of the stamped images in half and use at the top and bottom of your page.
Add finishing touches and details to your page. Add shadows using a graphite pencil and distress crayon around the girl image. Use a white marker to add white dots randomly across your page. Draw small white circles on the stamped images.
Use black VersaFine Clair ink pad and stamp a title onto your page.

Until next time I hope you are inspired by this page and by the amazing products available from this talented and amazing designer. Art by Marlene – designing real images for real life making creativity fun and easy!

Seize the Day Art Journaling Page

We have finally gotten some of the amazing AALL& Create stamps and products in South Africa and I am loving them. For art journaling last month we used this amazing stamp set along with some Liquid Acrylics from Prima and Concentrated Watercolours. Together these products make for an amazing end result.

I grew up with art around me, and more specifically watercolour paint. And that is where my love for the imperfect comes from – the possibilities and the opportunities that if offers are endless. And best of all it can be perfect if you want it to be.
For the tag we used good old black spray paint and sprayed over a stencil. Once the spray paint was dry, we used the Liquid Acrylics mixed with water to add colour to the open white spaces. A cool effect. The tag was trimmed shorter and adhere to the bottom of our pages for a fun effect.
Look how amazing all these inks work together. And as always my go-to stamping ink used is VersaFine Clair in Nocturne. Perfect for adding inks and paints over it without smudging.
Some text stamping in the background using VersaFine.
And finishing it off with some black dot stenciling and white gel pen details.
Such a simple but effective page with beautiful end results.
Until next time happy painting!

I created a quick card using stenciling and coloring. For my card I stenciled afterwards adding some pattern to the background.

I colo0ored the sloth using markers and stenciled with memento dye ink.

For my tag I first stencilled and then stamped and coloured the sloth. See how the stenciling peeks through the colouring on the sloth giving him some cool and creative markings.

And a few ink splats and diamante adds some colour and interest.

JowilnaNolte_AAA

I used this gorgeous Wellie stamp from the Spring Stroll stamp set.
I stamped the image onto white cardstock, added colour with markers and then punched it into a circle.

detail1

The sentiment was stamped onto the same cardstock and cut into a rectangle, that I raised using foam tape on top of some thread.

detail3

A few embellishments finished off this clean and simple card beautifully. Keeping it all neutral.

detail2

I like how the shade of white turned out to be different than my base cardstock – adding some interest but still keeping it clean.

I hope you are inspired by this card challenge and will play along with us. Head on over to the blog to see what the other designers created that are playing along.

Welcome to the Color by Faith Holy Week blog hop with Joy Clair
This Holy Week we are celebrating with the stunning range of Color by Faith Stamps available from Joy Clair creating beautiful art work.
I created this Bible Journaling spread with the Reckless Love stamp set and Hosanna stamp set.JNHosannaPge

At first I messed up this page so badly, but I took a couple of days to reflect and just pray and rested in the Lord and it came together in the end.
Funny how we try and impress God with perfection when He is just happy with our hearts – after all He knows us much better than the perfection we strive for.

JNdetail3

What does the Bible say about Hosanna? Hosanna is a word from Hebrew that is commonly used as an exclamation of adoration, praise or joy. In the Old Testament, it is applied only in scripture as “help” or “save, I pray.”
In the New Testament, the word Hosanna appears to be a “special kind of respect” referred to the one who saves.
Much like The Lord came and saved this journal page, He saves us daily from sin and imperfection – if only we call on Him.

JNdetail4

I think the title on this page speaks to me the most. I stamped “Hosanna” in Black Versafine Onyx, then added some inking using Oxide inks. The oxide ink lightened the black ink a lot,
and offered me the perfect opportunity to add a shadow of white StazOn Pigment over it slightly off-set for a stunning end result.

page2

I started off with layered of inking and paint on my background.
Stamped leaves and flowers onto cardstock and cut them out. A light inking on the leaves in green adds colour, but it is the white flowers that really pops against the colourful background that I love.

JNdetail2

A few white paint pen dots and graphite scribbles finishes off this page.

Until next time – Hosanna to the King!
Wishing you a blessed Easter, peace and love.
