Minted Copper wooden Heart

posted in: Techniques | 0

I have been inspired by a lot of trends lately, but one trend that has stood out is colour – and specifically green and mint. Not strange at all as that is the
Pantone colour of the year and all shades of green is popping up everywhere. So instead of kicking against it (lets face it green is not my favourite colour)
I am embracing the beauty of it and making it work for me.
This week I played with some gorgeous wooden cut out shapes and also working no a little decorating project – so the 2 tied in perfectly.

Wanted to give the wood a distressed look on some way and opted for a variety of failed attempt until i got to the one look that I truly loved.
I say failed attempt as nothing is ever wr9ong or right – it’s just not quite what I liked. So after a few hits and misses here is what I truly love.

step 1 – Paint your wooden product is 2 layers of Minted Pop Paint.
TIP: Since the paint is a really nice creamy thickness one layer is really enough, but for a nice solid colour I added 2 layers
and leaving the paint to dry between layers.

step1

step 2 – Once the paint is dry, lightly sand the heart with 60grit sanding paper. I just sanded it by hand until i was happy with the look
and with how smooth the surface felt.

step2

step 3 – Add a small amount of copper paint and brayer the paint onto the heart.
I ended up brayering in different directions to give me a nice random effect.
TIP: Because of the uneven surface the paint onto took in certain areas which I loved.

step3

step 4 – Using white texture paste through a stencil add wording or images to your heart.
Carefully remove the stencil and let the paste dry completely.

step4

I love the crispness of the white paste against the copper and mint.

The perfect accessory for your home or office and even a gallery wall in shades of copper and mint.

detail3

The warmth of the copper really compliments the mint paint in the background.
TIP: You can also add some wax to the heart one you have stenciled it for protection against dirt and grime.
Until next time – happy painting and decorating.
