We have finally gotten some of the amazing AALL& Create stamps and products in South Africa and I am loving them. For art journaling last month we used this amazing stamp set along with some Liquid Acrylics from Prima and Concentrated Watercolours. Together these products make for an amazing end result.
Prima
Modern Art Journal Page
I spent the day trying to get rid of a cold and headache, and ended up recycling an old art journal page I started a while ago. It ended up being a good day.
The original page started with some white Gesso on the Kraft coloured pages in the Dina Wakeley Media Journal. The Gold stars were stenciled with my own stencil design using Icing Paste from Prima.
And that was it. nothing else.
So I started to add some Impasto paint sponsored by Trocraft to work with. The paints are amazing and I loved working with them. And those gorgeous pastel colours – just so pretty.
Impasto paints are heavy bodied paints, making them really thick, they are heavily pigmented paints for awesome colour ways.
They are great for creating texture and can be applied with a palette knife, a brush, texture tools or your fingers.
You can water them down a bit should you wish to, and they mix really well into pastes. So yes these are amazing paints for art journaling and mixed media.
I added some Mont Marte acrylics too in bright pink, orange and Turquoise.
And then some gold leafing applied with some tacky gel.
A few palette knife streaks using navy paint and black modelling paste. But the majority of the soft pastel coloured page was done with Impasto Paints (Manor Blue/Mint/Dusty Rose/Lavender)
And then I tested a new set of Graphite pencils I got recently. Its a cheap set – but works really well and I love them.
So all in all my headache is still present, I feel crappy but I wished this piece of art was on a canvas for my wall. So there’s that.
Not bad for an otherwise not so great day.
Disclosure: The Prima Impasto Paints were given to me by Trocraft South Africa to work with. The opinion expressed about the product is my own and I do not get paid for it.
Prima – stamped frame of mind – the artist within me.
I love my stamps – and a good design can be so versatile! The thing about stamps is that you can use them over and over again and they never go to waste. Using the same stamp in different ways combining them with different products and techniques is what makes stamps so versatile. So for this week’s project I took to the new artistic stamps from Prima – don’t you just love the “girls”.
So once I decided on the image I wanted to use I thought it would be fun to do a bit of a masking technique and combine the image with different stamps and stencils to create a background effect. So here’s how I did it
Step 1
stamp the Karlie image twice. Once on the white cardstock you will use for your project and again on a scrap piece of paper.
Step 2
cut out the image stamped onto the scrap piece of paper. You want to cut on the line as opposed to just outside the line on the outer edge.
Step 3
use sticky squares to adhere the cut out image on top of the image stamped onto your cardstock. Then ink your second stamp and over stamp onto the background where you want your design to be.
Step 4
When you lift your stamp you can see that you stamped onto the background as well as onto the cut out image only. When you remove the cut out image from your project the second stamped image will appear as if it is in the background behind the original stamped image – pretty cool!
TIP – the cut out image also prevents you from messing up your original image – this is a great way of adding stamping to a project after you have finished it and if you think it needs a little something!
Step 5
Use your artiste markers and water to colour in your image. Once you are done colouring add some gold glitter glue to dress up your image and add some sparkle to it.
I cut my image smaller and added some stencil ling and ink splats to the background. My stamped images created a corner effect to frame the center image. I then added flowers and other decorative elements to finish off my art work before popping it inside of an empty gift box lid. In the end I had a funky little artwork to use in my studio.
I added gold glitter glue to my coloured image and love how that turned out. I hardly ever use glitter glue out of the bottle, I always squeeze it onto my finger tip and then apply it – this way you don’t get those unsightly glue streaks and marks left by the tip of the bottle, but rather a clean glittered look.
I also added some more Prima embellishments and pieces cut from their paper pads to decorate my image
and no Prima project is complete without their beautiful blooms
I hope this inspired you to pull out those stamps and utilize them even more! Happy stamping!
