Mindfulness while Making – Alcohol Inks

Has lockdown gotten to you yet? If it has, you are not alone – just know that it is OK to not be ok right now. But maybe it’s time to try to do something creative – even if it’s in your pj’s and your hair needs a wash and the house is a mess…it’s all OK. I try and do something creative every day, even if it’s just throwing ink onto a piece of paper and not really making anything – the paper might even end up in the trash. And that’s OK. Really it is.
Today I added ink onto white sticker labels – I didn’t make anything. I just coloured labels and it was a good day.
Here’s how I did it…I used white office labels and Couture Creations Alcohol Inks to add colour to them. Add some blending solution onto the labels and then drop some alcohol ink in a single colour onto the labels. Use a hairdryer on slow speed and cool setting and move the ink around until dry.
Add some more blending solution and a second colour of alcohol ink and again move the ink around until dry.
Use StazOn ink and stamp quotes onto the labels or names or flowers or anything that grabs your fancy.
These labels can now be turned into something, anything really – they can be used on an art journal page, as name labels on your kid’s school books or as decorative elements in your diary.
But what’s important is that you made something – you added some colour to your day, you sparked that part of your soul that needs you to be creative, and even if that is the only thing you did today – it was a great day!
You are OK, we are OK.

Carpe Diem Art Journaling Page Rosie’s Studio

Here’s another fun and meaningful art journaling page using the beautiful Rosie’s Studio Carpe Diem Cardstock Die-cuts. As we are ‘stuck’ in our homes during lockdown, it important to be wise with your time, intentional with your thoughts and quiet within yourself. And that to me means a time of creative reflection filled with whatever you need it to be.

his page started off with some stencilled details in the background using a circle stencil. I used my Little Birdie Mixed Media Paste for the stencilling. I layered acrylic paint on top of the stencilling in navy, pink and green.
To soften all those beautiful rich colours, I used a layer of thinned down Mixed Media Paste, turning it into gesso and lightening and softening the painted background. Note how the paintbrush created beautiful textures and patterns on the background adding to the look.
I then adhered the Rosie’s Studio die-cut elements using my Little Birdie Soft Gel – I add a layer of gel on the underside of the die-cuts and then position my die-cuts and cover them with another layer of gel. The gel functions both as an adhesive and as a sealant.
A couple of yellow KAISERmist splatters make for a nice contrast against the colourful background. I finished off my page by creating some using black and purple pencils and a stamped sentiment. Some black borders around the edges make for a nice final touch.
And don’t forget to date your page. When you look back at this year, this time of creative reflection will be a reminder of things gone, things survived and things to be thankful for. Blessings!
