Since all things Cricut has been happening in and around the house I thought it may be the time to actually use it on the house, right? Well all I can say is that if you still don’t own and Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2 then you are missing out on a whole lot of fun. It’s not just for crafting, it really is for every single part of your life.
And I may also have found one of my new favourite vinyls so watch this space for more of it. Can you guess what it may be?

It all started very innocently by labeling an empty glass bottle. I have stored my sunlight dish washing liquid in it for years but it finally got a little bit of an update with this truly amazing Cricut Premium Vinyl Permanent Sampler – Textured Metallic Precious Metals {2007743}. I did use one of my favourite bold fonts, just in case the men in the house had any doubts to what the green liquid may be for – it still hasn’t made a difference. But at least I enjoy it everyday!
Next up was the cabinets above the kitchen sink – literally everything but the sink will get transformed, or will it ? A simple two door cabinet with glass inserts got transformed with some frosted vinyl to add a pattern. I wanted something fun and girly, well clearly I didn’t win that battle, but eventually I will win the war and do a bold array of flowers.
The vinyl was cut on my Cricut Maker using my 12×24″ LightGrip cutting mat. I simply enlarged the design until it worked my my panels and in a few easy steps I had transformed the glass doors.

Step 1 – Clean the glass inside using a soft cloth and some alcohol making sure all the dirt and finger marks are removed. And while you are at it clean the outside too.
Step 2 – Choose your design, and cut your image. Apply transfer tape and burnish well using your XL scraper.
Step 3 – Fold only a small piece of the backing tape down and apply the top to the inside of the cupboard. Eyeball it, or do the right thing and make sure its straight and fits nicely inside.
Step 4 – Carefully peel the backing paper down and use the XL scraper to burnish the vinyl onto the glass, smoothing it out and removing any bubbles.
Step 5 – Burnish the entire design and use a soft cloth as a final burnish. Carefully peel the transfer tape off of the design and glass.
Step 6 – Enjoy your fabulously cool sandblasted design – updating your cupboards in a few easy steps.
I love this design and best of all is that I found it ready to go in Design Space – this took all the thinking out of the process. I just couldn’t decide what I wanted to add so instead of not doing anything at all I just picked a design, cut it and applied it. And in 6 month’s time or a week’s time or whenever I feel like it, I can peel the vinyl off and add a new design. This suits me just fine – I can change my home decor anytime I want to, updating things and keeping life interesting. I don’t think the rest of the inhabitants will think the same, but that’s a story for another day…

With my Cricut range of machines – all the dreams really do come true in a few easy steps.
